Deception Island is an active volcano with a water caldera in the center. The volcano last erupted in 1970. The beach rocks are warm enough to cause steam to rise as the cold ocean washes ashore. The ship sailed into the caldera through a narrow passage known as Neptune's Bellows. There were a number of seals lounging on the shore. The light playing off of the mountains on the distant shore was delightful.
