Emmigrant Wilderness Area was the my first experience with the Sierra Nevada when I arrived in California more than thirty years ago. Levit Lake and Kennedy Meadows hold a special place in my heart for their beauty and hiking challenge. Now that I have hiked in the Spanish Pyrenees, I understand why Hollywood chose Emmigrant for the setting of "For Whom the Bell Tolls".
