Lava Beds National Monument is famous as the site where the Modoc Indians held off the U.S. cavalry for months. The park is a wonderful collection of strange rock formations and lava flows. On a clear day the view of Mount Shasta is spectacular. In the spring, wildflowers and butterflies abound.
