Sequoia National Park is famous for the inland redwood species for which the park is named. The sequoia is not as tall as its coastal cousing, but it is much wider at its base. Sequoia is also home to some of the highest mountains in the southere Sierra Nevada range. The park contains a wealth of hiking trails that lead into to remote mountain lanscape that makes up the eastern edge of the park. Mount Whitney (the highest point in the continental United States) is located on the eastern edge of this park.
